5 Fun Festivals in Hull this July
Hull is definitely the place to be this summer, with so many vibrant outdoor events and festivals. We’ve rounded up our top 5 festivals that we’re certainly going to attend this July.
Hull Film Festival
Monday 26 June – Friday 9 July
The city’s movie bonanza returns for its fourth year, celebrating the best of independent film. Kicking off at the end of June, the 14-day event stretches across the entire city centre, boasting some of Hull’s most popular venues and spaces, such as Vue Cinema, Hull Truck Theatre, Fruit, Stage@TheDock and Zebedee’s Yard.
View BAFTA-nominated shorts and spectacular silent films, explore the world of foreign language filmography and re-watch old classics.
Tickets start from just £5 per event and can be purchased via Hull Box Office.
Oak Road Festival
Saturday 1 July
Pupils from the multinational Learning Sanctuary at Rise Academy will be bringing a fantastic festival to Oak Road Playing Fields.
Incorporating themes of freedom and culture, the students have worked hard to produce an event that raises awareness of the collaboration between learners of different nationalities. Enjoy a range of music, arts and cuisine from around the world, all set against the backdrop of the beautiful Oak Road Lake.
On top of all this, the one-dayer is absolutely free.
The Big Gig
Saturday 8 July
There’s going to be a party in Pearson Park and you’re invited!
Hull Red, an organisation that regularly runs events for adults with learning disabilities, is bringing its Big Gig to the Avenues. The miniature music festival is made specially for those with learning disabilities. It will provide a safe and comfortable space for people to be themselves and have a wonderful time.
Fully accessible, the park will be kitted out with disabled toilets, changing places, and facilities for adults of any ability. Entry is free and the festivities commence at 1pm.
Hull Jazz Festival
Tuesday 11 – Saturday 15 July
The summer instalment of Hull Jazz Festival has been going for a quarter of a century. This year’s programme involves venues across the whole city.
The fabulous line-up includes Snake Davis, Bud Sugar, Chiedu Oraka and Courtney Pine. Ticket prices vary depending on the event and can be bought from Hull Truck Theatre online or by ringing 01482 323638.
Hull Folk and Maritime Festival
Thursday 20 – Sunday 23 July
To end the month in style, we have Hull Folk and Maritime Festival, where you can honour the city’s unique heritage through music and dance.
Now in its 27th year, the event attracts internationally acclaimed artists. Next month’s offering includes over 80 free performances all around the stunning Hull Marina and Old Town. In addition to this, there will be traditional arts and crafts, historic talks and vibrant displays. Some of the events are ticketed and you can book your place online.
