5 Amazing Eateries on Newland Avenue

Newland Avenue is home to dozens of distinctive restaurants, cafes and takeaways. Whether you’re after indulgent Italian, flavoursome Caribbean or tasty Polish cuisine, this vibrant throughway has it all. We’ve picked out five top places to grab a bite.

Roots Rum Shack and Kitchen

If spice is what you’re after, this is the restaurant for you. Bringing the taste of the Caribbean islands to Hull, Roots Rum Shack and Kitchen is the ideal place to go for a fiery meal, followed by a refreshing cocktail.

Priding themselves on authenticity, Roots serves the most mouth-watering Jamaican dishes, including curried goat, jerk ribs and, of course, rice ‘n’ peas. Meanwhile, their cocktails are sublime and laced with rum.

Even their chocolate fudge cake is accompanied by a tummy-warming rum custard.

Level Cafe Bar and Grill

With its fresh decor, simple menu and cafe bar atmosphere, Level is a very popular choice.

Signature dishes, special drinks and exquisite pizzas make it the perfect spot to meet with friends and colleagues. What’s more is that they regularly have weekday and lunchtimes offers, as well as a cocktail happy hour available from Sunday to Thursday.

Menu highlights include their Fun Guy burger, grilled chicken breast with sauteed forest mushrooms, and pan-seared sea bass.

No. 6 Kitchenette

One of the newest additions to the Avenues is No.6 Kitchenette. Offering a unique dining experience, with a menu of locally-sourced ingredients and grazing options, this restaurant is a great choice for an informal meeting or a catchup with friends.

Their sourdough pizzas come in a medley of classic and contemporary flavours, including ham and mushroom, chorizo, pulled ham and black pudding, and smoked salmon, cream cheese and broccoli.

No. 6 celebrates the best of British with their broad selection of English ales and lagers.

Kurna Chata

Alternatively, sample the delights of Poland at Kurna Chata. Their most loved dish is Piers Pod Pierzynka (translating as chicken breast under the duvet). The comforting meal consists of chicken in breadcrumbs, paired with mushrooms and melted cheese.

If you still have room, fill up on their delicious dumplings, hunger-busting soups and yummy crepes and ice cream. Finally, wash it all down with a traditional polish beer or glass of wine.

Larkin’s Bar

Relax in the newly refurbished garden at Larkin’s whilst tucking into a hearty plate of grub, craft beers and wines.

The classic yet modern eatery with bare-bricked interiors is named after Hull’s acclaimed poet and librarian, Philip Larkin. Grab a beautiful burger or opt for beef steak stroganoff, or perhaps a tasty risotto.

Additionally, their lighter options are equally as scrumptious, with spicy mango chicken salad on the menu. On top of all this, kids eat free between the hours of 12pm and 4pm on weekdays.
