Places to Buy Groceries Down Newland and Princes Avenue

The Avenues are a great place to live. Everything you could possibly need is right on your doorstep, meaning that you can get hold of everyday essentials in a jiffy.

We’ve rounded up some handy places you need to know about before moving to Newland or Princes Avenue.

Fruit and veg

Stocking up on your five-a-day is easy when you live on the Avenues, and there’s plenty of choice when it comes to independent fruit traders. Grab a basket at Ian Sewell Fruiterer and fill it up to your heart’s content. Meanwhile, Fruitopia offers delicious bites alongside everyday essentials and Bananarama have some great pre-packed mixes. All of these are down Newland Avenue.

If you’re after something a little more specific to suit your dietary requirements, you can head up the street to Grain Wholefood. They stock a wide variety of health and natural foods, including supplements, spices and meat-free alternatives.

Meat and fish

As Hull is a famous port city, it’s unsurprising that the Avenues are home to a fantastic fishmonger. Open Tuesday to Saturday 8:30am-5pm, R & R Seafood is located at 73 Newland Avenue. They stock an assortment of fresh fish and tasty treats from the ocean, meaning that you never need to be without a mouthwatering and nutritious meal.

Meanwhile, there’s a choice of three butchers on Princes and Newland Avenue. S.J. Donaldson’s is a traditional family business that is open daily. Across the road, you’ll find B&M Andrews. Established in 1978, B&M offers a range of locally-sourced poultry, beef and pork. Then on Princes Avenue there’s T.L. Norman, which provides you with flavoursome protein.

Flowers

Perhaps not an everyday essential, but a bouquet of blooms can certainly brighten your day. Eden Floral Boutique on Newland is always bustling with fresh, beautiful bunches at really affordable prices. Give them to a special friend, or keep them for your own windowsill.

Post office

A post office just down the road is really handy, especially if you’re living away from home whilst studying or working in Hull. Send parcels back to your family and friends and collect those all-important packages from late-night online shopping sprees. The post office is situated at 69 Newland Avenue and it’s open Monday-Saturday 9am-5:30pm.

Crafts, DIY and garden

On top of all this, there are many more retailers on the Avenues that stock everyday supplies. Babes in the Wool is an independent knitting and haberdashery shop – they’ll point you in the right direction for mending your clothes or updating an outfit. You could even knit your friends matching scarves if you’re strapped for cash come Christmas time!

Additionally, the Newland Garden and Pet Supplies shop caters for all of your outdoor needs, as well as those of your pet pooch. Opened twenty years ago, this family-run business supply all sorts of essentials, including fencing, turf and woodchip, as well as topsoil, stones and ornaments – ideal if you’re revamping your garden this summer.

As for Macs Tools on Newland Avenue, it’s a DIY fan’s dream come true!
