The Turner Comes to Hull

Whether you already live in Hull or are moving to the city due to business, education or family relocation, you couldn’t have chosen a better time. With UK City of Culture status for 2017 swiftly taking effect, you can already see signs of the mass regeneration project that will transform the majority of the city centre, from pedestrianisation and new paving, to stylish street lighting, the celebration of local heritage and perhaps even the relocation of the Wilberforce Monument back to its original spot near Whitefriargate.

As if 365 days of cultural activity, festivals galore and a major focus on enabling individuals and communities to access and get involved in the arts isn’t enough to look forward to, we’ve only gone and secured the Turner Prize as well. The annual art event organised by the Tate Gallery and usually staged at Tate Britain, sponsored by everyone from Channel 4 to Gordon’s Gin and talked about across the world, will take place at the Ferens Art Gallery in 2017. With the prize often awarded by a celebrity, including Yoko Ono and Jude Law in recent years, it’s a celebration of the arts that gets everyone’s attention. Whether you love Damien Hirst’s shark in formaldehyde or hate Tracey Emin’s messed up bed, chances are you’re not indifferent to this daring, controversial and often downright baffling display of modern expression.

Most importantly, the event will bring huge numbers of people to the city. From large corporate businesses pumping capital into our local economy, to families visiting for the weekend and experiencing our wonderful museums and eateries, the Turner Prize will mean big things for Hull. After all, when people visit a city, they use cafes and bars, shops and markets, theatres and cinemas, taxis and buses, not to mention bring with them a vibe that can transform surroundings overnight. With all kinds of exciting and innovative exhibitions, festivals, events, gigs and shows taking place daily, this city really is the perfect place to live, work and play.

We’re very excited about the future of Hull and we’re here to help you make it your home with expert advice and zero fuss. If you’re looking for a new place to call your own, check out these properties to rent in Hull and contact us on 01482 342155 for a friendly and informative chat.
